The Chantry Singers are delighted to welcome to Bath the distinguished Canadian choir CHORUS NIAGARA, who are on a short tour of the UK in May 2009.
They travel with their artistic director Robert Cooper, and the choir will sing with us the beautiful Requiem by Maurice Duruflé, and a selection of much loved Handel choruses.
CHORUS NIAGARA are considered to be the leading choir in their region of Canada, which borders the United States in the province of Ontario, and lies between the lakes Ontario and Erie. They came into existence in 1963, and have grown to more than 100 singers, some of whom will be making up their travelling choir. They also have a flourishing youth choir.
The artistic director, Robert Cooper C.M. is one of Canada’s best known choral conductors. He is currently the Artistic Director of the Orpheus Choir of Toronto,Chorus Niagara, and the Opera in Concert Chorus, and teaches at the Faculty of Music, University of Toronto.
Niagara’s accompanist, Lynne Honsberger, a native of the Niagara region, has appeared with numerous choral ensembles, orchestras, and in solo performances.
